Our review:Item Description:When set up for portrait display, this 42-inch plasma display is similar in size and aspect ratio to a movie-size poster. Use it as a moving image poster. Or upgrade the system with a scheduling function that displays content according to the correct time zone, and use it as a digital signboard.
Amazon.com Item Description:This 16:9 widescreen plasma set a bright display that will look good in any room, on any wall or on any surface. It comes standard with both basic video and PC inputs and is easily expandable to accommodate a variety of different sources.
Image Panasonic's Multi-Facet Asymmetrical Configuration Hyper-Pixel (MACH) panel features new materials and technology that improves the light-emitting efficiency and intensity of their plasma screens. The result is a deeper contrast ratio (up to 3,000:1 in dark areas), 2,048 shades of gradation (4,096 shades via HDMI or DVI connection and optional accessory board),3.62 billion full-time displayable colors. It boasts a 1,024 x 768 resolution and is compatible with a whole host of HD signals, from 1080i to 480p.
The TH-42PHD8UK also uses a host of Panasonic image improving features. Adaptive Gain Control raises contrast while suppressing noise by detecting and boosting only the image edges. Motion Picture Noise Disturbance Reduction detects motion patterns that tend to generate noise and makes adjustments to maximize image quality without diminishing the quality of stationary background objects. The Active Interlace/Progressive Conversion System reduces interlace to progressive conversion noise that often occurs when reproducing tiny movements, resulting in better vertical resolution.
Connections The TH-42PHD8UK features both flexible A/V and IT system configurations. Built-in video connections include S-video, BNC, and component. Accessory boards expand your possibilities to include SDI, HD-SDI, HDMI, DVI-D w/HDCP, Twisted-Pair cable, and IEEE 802.11b. Have the set do double duty as your PC monitor, too, since it supports VGA, SVGA, XGA, SXGA, and UXGA PC signals and comes with a common PC monitor port. The Remotes System Monitoring Command feature allows users to control their TH-42PHD8UK via RS-232C interface. If you really want to get fancy, a built-in wall processor allows you to array TH-42PHD8UKs in 2x2, 3x3, or even 4x4 multi-screen video walls.
37-inch Wide Screen A general rule of thumb for selecting the right size television screen is that the screen width--not its 37-inch diagonal measurement--should be between three and five times the optimum viewing distance, such as the distance from the TV screen to where your eyes are while sitting on the couch. Less than that and you may be distracted by the scan lines of the picture. More than that, and you may lose the detail of your TV. Based on this guide, the TH-42PHD8UK is ideal for viewing distances of nine to 15 feet.
Other Features Panasonic's new Advanced Dual Picture Mode simultaneously displays images from two different video sources or a video and PC source. 4x Digital Zoom allows you to divide the screen into zones and enlarge images up to 400%. The set also features enhanced screen saver and energy-saving functions.

Love this Panasonic TV!!
We have had this TV for 5 months now and LOVE it!! It has stunning color, amazing clarity and is very simple to use and install. We studied the reviews and chose this one for both it's size and it's cost. We could not be happier with our purchase.

Still Satisfied 18 months later
I have this TV for almost a year and a half and have no complaints. I bought the optional HDMI and DVI add-in boards and they work perfectly with my home theater PC and cable box.
One thing to remember is that this model has fewer inputs than the consumer models, it does not have an internal tuner or speakers either. So keep that in mind if it matters to you. For me I don't need these extras, plus this model is easier to tweak than the consumer models.
At this point though you may want to upgrade to the TH-42PHD9UK. It's cheaper and one generation newer.

Missing a few things
I just got this TV 3 days ago. It provides a beautiful crisp image. Navigating the menus is sometimes a bit of a problem, as they're not set up as intuitively as a lot of TVs I've owned.
My only real complaint would be the initial set up of the TV. I pulled it out of it's box, and only then did I realize (my fault probably) that it doesn't come with a stand. Because of that, and because no store near me carried the stand designed to work with that TV I had to get a wall mount. So the TVs price is TV + Stand. And depending on what you want to use the TV for you'll have to get adapters. I went to plug in my R/G/B cables from my X-Box 360 and they wouldn't fit. The R/G/B cables on the TV were for BCN or something like that. So I had to go and buy the adapters for that. Five of them to get full usage of the TVs ports. So price is now TV + Stand + 5 RCA-BCN converters. And theres no place on the TV (that I could find) to plug in regular cable television. I have no idea what kind of converter I'm going to get for that, but I'm sure theres one out there.
If none of that bothers you though, then get the TV. It really is the best image/size/quality that you'll get for this price.
